| Born
the night before his father, Bobby Allison's, first Daytona 500, David
Carl "Davey" Allison was always destined for Stock Car Racing
greatness. Although he could have been "given" easy access
to NASCAR's elite series, his parents, Bobby and Judy, instilled a strong
work ethic and appreciation in Davey forcing him to finish high school
first - "no GED" - and then to work on his own car, on his
own time when not working for his father's race team.
Davey quickly made his presence known in NASCAR Winston Cup racing by sitting on the front row for the 1987 Daytona 500, winning two races that year, and earning Rookie of the Year honors. In a career that lasted only 8 years, Davey went on to win an amazing total of 19 Winston Cup races, 14 poles, and over $6.0 million in prize money. Many fans will never forget Davey's role in one of the greatest finishes ever at Daytona when he finished second to his father in the 1988 500. By 1991 and 1992, Davey was on top of his game winning 5 races each year and the Winston All Star Race in 1991. Davey's strong sense of humility and appreciation was evident as he often sat for hours after a race to be sure that every fan that wanted his autograph got it. Long after most drivers had left, Davey could often be found still surrounded by hundreds of his fans signing hats and posters. Sadly, in 1993 Davey was lost to his family, friends and fans in 1993 in a tragic helicopter accident in the infield at Talladega. Davey
